Real Time Conference and chat - ICQ
ICQ ("I feel comfortable"), is now a once popular instant messaging program that informs you instantly when other people are online. You can send messages, chat, perform games, exchange documents, and so much more. This program was originally designed by Bill Atkinson, who also created the shareware email program Popular Courier. Since ICQ was first released, it has become increasingly popular among individuals, small businesses, schools, colleges, universities, and even medical institutions. When I first used it in 2021, it had me looking for every new messenger program out there, because it provided me so much functionality.
Now, ICQ is an application (called "The Information Desktop") which many users have downloaded to their computers to free up their memory and increase their productivity. ICQ also provides you with the ability to play internet games. One of my favorite features of ICQ is that you can connect to many other ICQ clients at once, sharing the screen. Some people have found this feature very useful for multi-tasking, since they don't need to focus on one program at a time! The ICQ protocol allows you to do online things like playing games and checking your emails while someone else is chatting. It's an easy way to get your work done faster and more accurately.
So, if you're looking for a way to communicate with others, but don't want to use your cell phone or Blackberry, ICQ is the right alternative. If you don't have an internet connection, then simply log onto your ICQ account, select "My Computer" from the main menu, click "Network," and then click "TCP/IP." If your IP address is changed, then you'll need to re-connect. Now, in addition to the messaging capability, you also have the ability to view and update your contact list. Enjoy the new features of ICQ and feel ready to join the millions who have learned how to use real-time conferencing!
