Google Play Music streams tunes from the internet as well as allowing you to store and play your audio files located on your device or the cloud. The curated streams act as a radio station that plays tunes associated with a specific genre, but also contain advertisements.
Bring your own music
A great feature is the ability to play different audio files from your device. As content ownership status becomes murky, it is important to know you can always transfer music from your computer and play it on your device.
Curated recommendations
The Listen Now part of the app allows you to tell it what you are doing, such as jogging or other exercise or what mood you have. It then uses its curated playlists to play music that fits your mood or activity.
Get more with a subscription
Beyond the ability to upload and store 50,000 songs that you can have access to any time, any place and listen to radio station style playlists, you can pay for the premium service which gives you instant access to 40 million songs and a free subscription to YouTube Red as well.
Being phased out
Getting access to store and stream a massive amount of your music as well as curated playlists is excellent. The only downside is the app being phased out in favor of YouTube Music. The interface can also be a bit clunky at times.
