Lipikar Keyboard Layout
Linguikar is an award winning, best selling, award winning keyboard cleaner/family of instruments created by engineers from Carnegie Mellon University, USA. Linguikar is an award winning, best selling, award winning desktop authoring program for creating non-ASCII fonts on Windows operating systems. It was originally developed primarily for use by English-speaking users of non-ASCII or foreign languages on Windows. Through its uniquely interactive interface, Lipikar tries to take over the tedious, dragging, and double-clicking of traditional keyboard composition down through a phonetic writing process, thereby making keyboard text-entry for non-ASCII languages a relatively easy task for beginners and power-owners alike.
In the "What's New" section of Microsoft's Window 7 operating system it states "You can install additional fonts and edit or delete existing fonts with the help of a graphical user interface (GUI). One example of this feature is the Fonts viewer that allows users to see a visual representation of all the available fonts and click on any of the letters that they want to convert into their recognized Greek letters. Other examples of this useful tool include the Quick Font button, which allows the user to view a sample Glyph file and then select which fonts are appropriate for their native language and how they should be placed onto the page. On a related note, the Glyph pane allows the user to view a graphical representation of the letter in question, and then assign it a specific shape and size allowing it to be easily manipulated within the document.
Another great use for the user interface of lipikar is the replacement of many traditional Windows graphic symbols with their corresponding non-ASCII counterparts. This includes the Currency symbol, which has been replaced by its Greek and Turkish equivalents. This includes the Greek currency seal, which has been replaced by the much more modern looking owl symbol. These two changes have made many people around the world embrace the new font, which has become widely accepted in just a short amount of time.
