Amnesia: The Dark Descent Game Review
Amnesia: The Dark Descent, or simply Amnesia, is a psychological horror video game based on the novels written by Agatha Christie. The game follows detective Jane Watson, who after recovering from a mysterious amulet takes a vacation in an ancient castle. While there she becomes possessed by the Devil and must fight her way through the dark and dangerous grounds of the castle in order to escape. While playing as the game character, you will find yourself locked in struggle with the monsters and puzzles you will need to solve in order to move on to the next area.
The game is basically a point-and-click adventure where your objective is to locate objects, solve puzzles and make your way through the dark with limited oxygen. The game was developed by the now well-known game designer Ion Malnarajskoff, the man responsible for developing titles such as Grim Fandango, raid, and the underrated Sin City. While Amnesia: The Dark Descent does not achieve the fame of other games like Grim Fandango, it is still a solid horror game that is worth playing and provides some fun moments and puzzles to the player. It is not a game that can easily be categorized into any one category but it does have enough elements of mystery, suspense and adventure to make it worth playing no matter what gaming genre you prefer to play.
The player takes control of Jane Watson, who is deep inside a castle looking for a way to escape and get help. She soon realizes that she is stuck in the center of the castle and is surrounded by a number of gargantuan creatures. The player has a limited amount of time in which they have to find help before the monster's attack and kill them. The puzzles are quite varied and are designed to test the player's memory, perception, decision making skills and even their memory when it comes to remembering things from the dark descent.
