Shing is the developer for A Short Rest. It’s free for Windows 8 and downloadable as a ZIP file. The app is in the fantasy genre and it gives you free printables to use in role-playing games.
A Short Rest is a pastoral fantasy about the short rest concept during a game. The developer created a collection of digital maps and cards. Use it for role-playing games and world-building games. About A Short Rest
This download gives you access to watercolour and ink-illustrated digital files. All of them are accessible as individual high-resolution JPEGs. You get seven 12” x 9” maps and fifty cards, all created by Shing Yin Khor. You can use these when developing your game.
These cards feature characters and strange or ordinary objects, and items that you can use at a roadside vendor or travelling merchant. You’ll find a handwritten description at the bottom of each card.
All of these maps and cards are printable and licenced under an International Creative Commons license. The content allows for attribution and non-commercial use. That means you can share the material by copying and redistributing it in any medium or format. Or, you can adapt it by remixing it.
How to print
Follow the instructions in the PDF included with the download. You can print the maps at any print shop. The cards are 2” x 3.5” with a quarter bleed right around. If you want to print them at home, you may need to scale them down first. They’ll look best on uncoated paper.
What is on the cards?
You find a variety of pictures on the cards to liven up your game. It will stretch your imagination to figure out where to use characters like a dried squid on a stick, a fisher lizard, worms, succulents, snails, and many more.
