Temple Run - Is Temple Run the Greatest Explorer App of All Time?
2021's top smart phone download game is Temple Run. Temple Run is an endless 3D scrolling action-adventure mobile game based on the fantasy novel/topical "The Lord of the Rings". The story follows an adventurous young hobbits, newly-minted members of an Elf clan who flees from their home and into the wild west. On their journey they seek to find their rightful inheritance, the Ring of Seven. However, while the boys make their way through this strange and dangerous land, they encounter many dangers and puzzles which put their quest for the Ring at risk.
In its early stages, the game provides enough content for replay value, but as the story unfolds, the gameplay gets more challenging, thus resulting in a more fluid experience overall. For example, in the second half of the game, there's a non linear path where the player has to travel back to the beginning and complete earlier challenges before moving on. The main storyline, meanwhile, involves the characters traveling throughout Middle Earth to find the legendary Ring of Seven, only to find that its location has been changed into a desolate and irradiated place. This forces the players to travel through the different regions of Middle Earth, each region offering its own storyline to explore. Throughout this journey, you'll also encounter many familiar locations like the Shire, Mount Doom, and the mines of Minien.
While it's true that Temple Run has become the biggest grossing iPhone application of all time, it's still not enough to crown it as the greatest explorer app of all time. In fact, according to Gamespy, its gameplay can be considered as only moderately challenging, to introduce some pretty interesting physics, and its storyline is largely devoid of mystery. Still, with great graphics and an engaging gameplay, Temple Run has managed to win a lot of hearts by appealing to a wide variety of gamers. Due to its simplicity, it's not surprising that the game manages to retain most of its users' momentum throughout its run on the App Store. And even if it were to lose some of its initial appeal due to the many competitors currently available on the marketplace, there's still no doubt that Temple Run remains at the top of the gaming App Store charts.
