Peel Smart Remote is a free remote app that allows you to use any compatible device with an IR blaster to control devices like TVs and home theatre installations.
Peel Smart Remote is a universal remote app because it can be both installed on many different devices and used to control many different devices. Rather than having to keep multiple physical remotes around, the Peel app can replace all of them. Similar apps for controlling other devices include Kies and PS4 Remote Play.
How do I use Peel remote?
Peel Smart Remote is a universal remote that can control TVs, air conditioners, smart devices and other gadgets like Roku. The most important requirement is that both the device you install Peel on and the device you are looking to control use IR. If both devices support IR, the app will mimic a physical remote and work just like one.
Does Peel Smart Remote need WiFi?
Peel Smart Remote does not require a WiFi connection to work. By default, it utilises IR technology to communicate between compatible devices. However, Peel Smart Remote can still work even if the device it is installed on does not have an IR blaster. In this case, it can fall back to using WiFi instead to communicate, provided both devices support WiFi.
A convenient and simple to use universal remote
Peel Smart Remote is simple to use and compatible with a wide range of devices. Its universal compatibility is very convenient and it's completely free, but that does come at a cost. Peel has some very unfriendly behaviours, such as very intrusive ads on your lock screen and overlays while using the app.
The app is known to open itself in the background even after it is closed by the user. In addition to this, on devices where it comes pre-installed, there is no way to uninstall it; it can only be disabled. Due to these user-unfriendly behaviours, it is hard to recommend in spite of its ease of use and support for a wide range of devices.
