Configuring your Windows Filtering Platform and deciding which software and applications run or are blocked on startup is a challenging task, to say the least. This is where Simplewall comes in, providing you with an effortless and streamlined application to do just this.
Simplewall essentially allows you to assign custom filters for your WFP, therefore allowing you to override the standard WFP rules plus the filters that come preinstalled on your Windows operating system and or device. It can therefore be stated that Simplewall, much like fellow network security app Wireshark, gives you significantly more control over programs on your network and your Windows device.
Compatibility and more
Simplewall is highly compatible with most versions of Windows. For further compatibility, Simplewall comes in 32-bit and 64-bit executable form as well.
Another neat feature of Simplewall is that it can be used in a fully portable mode or alternatively, you can install the application to your device. On a side note, be aware that for certain actions, some privileges on your Windows operating system will need to be given.
Simplewall VS other firewalls
Simplewall works very differently from your standard firewall. When you initially open this application, it is useless, it only becomes a great tool once you put it to work. There are three modes available: whitelist, blacklist and block mode.
Whitelist mode means that no programs will be allowed to connect to the internet unless you manually whitelist them. This is also the default mode of Simpewall.
Blacklist mode is the opposite in the sense that when activated, all programs can connect to the internet unless they have been manually blacklisted or banned.
Block mode is the final mode and is self-explanatory, it blocks all traffic no matter what.
Premium firewall type application
Simplewall offers users effortless and simple firewall protection for Windows. Although it is highly effective, the in-app usability could be better and needs some work. With that being said, it is still great at blocking unwanted internet connections and it is completely free and lightweight as well.
