If you have multiple devices, there are times when you need to transfer data between them. Sometimes you need to do this without access to a computer and a bunch of data transfer tables.
ShareIt is a utility aimed at making it easier to transfer files between devices. It creates a peer-to-peer wifi network which it uses to transfer data at higher speeds than is possible over Bluetooth.
OS agnostic file sharing
There are advantages to using a peer-to-peer network to transfer files. It works for devices with different operating systems, although it must be noted that both devices need to have the ShareIt app installed. There is a ShareIt app for Windows, which makes the transfer of files between your phone and computer a breeze.
The developers claim that you can achieve transfer speeds of up to 20mb/s, which is not as high as that stated by its rival Xender. Remember, though in reality, many factors can influence this speed, such as the strength of the wifi signal and the distance between two devices. As a consequence, It is unlikely that you would achieve maximum transfer speed.
Lenovo are not noted for producing ultra-secure software. Earlier versions of this app did have several security vulnerabilities. Thankfully these have been fixed. You should consider the risk before transferring sensitive files using this app. It may well be wise to use a more secure method where security is paramount.
ShareIt has some other useful features. It is possible to send over multiple files of different types, as well as folders containing multiple files. Xender does not support this, for example. It is also possible to access content from several in-app feeds, covering movies, music, wallpapers and gifs.
As the app is free, be prepared for a large number of ads. These are very intrusive and can impact the usability of the app. Sometimes these ads contain inappropriate content.
Easy file transfers despite ads
The ShareIt app can be useful, particularly if you have devices with different OSs.
There are obvious security implications of using a peer-to-peer network for transferring files. It is not the best solution for sharing sensitive data.
The app also includes many intrusive ads. Sometimes these are inappropriate, which makes it hard to recommend this over the many other apps that have similar functionality.
