Poppy Playtime is a game developed by MOB Game Studios. This horror game delivers an experience very similar to the ones offered by Five Nights at Freddy’s AR and CASE Animatronics Horror game with creepy animatronics coming to life and chasing after you. Poppy Playtime makes players solve puzzles with special toy hands to grab objects from afar and activate mechanisms in the toy factory.
It’s easy to learn the playing mechanics and has a suitably spooky atmosphere that helps you to become absorbed in the game beyond the simple satisfaction of solving the puzzles and progressing.
Gameplay
Poppy Playtime mixes horror and puzzle, so you’ll usually be solving puzzles that lead to uncanny discoveries and intense moments of horror. The game is played in first-person mode, and you’ll always see your character's hands, one red, one blue. You can use your hands, or Grabpack, to grab objects and push mechanisms to help you solve the puzzles.
Furthermore, your hands will extend when grabbing something, which can also be used to solve the puzzles. They can also serve as electrical conductors during electricity-based puzzles, opening new areas. Monsters can surprise you out of nowhere, and your character can’t fight back, so you’ll have to run and hide when monsters are around the corner.
Visual presentation & atmosphere
In Poppy Playtime, you’ll find yourself in an abandoned toy factory, creating the same uneasiness as Five Nights at Freddy’s games. The game offers detailed 3D graphics with dynamic lighting, which further creates the creepy ambience Poppy Playtime is going for. Poppy Playtime features plenty of dark corridors, and thanks to its detailed graphics, you’ll see things moving without being sure, reinforcing the feeling of being watched.
Intense horror game
Poppy Playtime plays on the fact that you’ll probably be focused on solving challenging puzzles to surprise you with scary monsters. With minimal resources, and the gloom surrounding you, this is a test of your mentality.
With the first-person perspective, detailed graphics, and dynamic lights, it’s almost impossible not to get engrossed in the spooky environment. The game will often surprise you with shadows lurking around dark corridors, and you may get chased during a puzzle, so you’ll have to run and hide. For a casual game with plenty of scares, Poppy is worth a try.
