It's really simple to get your hands on OpenBVE. It's free software for your hosting needs, and it comes pre-installed on many hosting servers as part of the server software package. So how do you install it? What sort of installation steps can you take to get the most out of your OpenBVE experience? This article looks at a few installation options and offers up some guidance on how best to get your OpenBVE playing.
First of all - if you're using a secure website to host your website (we'll assume that you're using cPanel) then you should already have an open file containing the OpenBVE file. Simply download the most recent stable release of OpenBVE into your cPanel folder and then extract it into your openBVE folder. Once you've done that, you can move on to the installation process. You can either perform this step by hand, which can often be quite a pain, or use the OpenBVE installation wizard that is built into cPanel. Either way, the steps to follow are pretty much the same.
Next, we'll want to add an application to our web pages and configure OpenBVE to use the OpenFX rendering engine. This is pretty easy - you'll just need to go into the "add-ons" area of your cPanel web control and find the section for OpenBVE. Click on the installation icon and follow the steps to install the OpenBVE plugin. After it's installed, you'll see a new icon on your desktop; simply select it and click on the OpenBVE icon to bring up the main menu for configuring the openBVE rendering panel.
