HoloCure is a free fan game for Windows developed by Kay Yu. It’s an indie title inspired by Hololive, a Japanese VTuber platform and Vampire Survivor, another fan game. This is a turn-based RPG with a Gacha mechanic, so collecting characters is crucial to progress.
If you enjoy free Survival Pc games, you may be interested in trying Gacha Club, which offers a similar character collection system or Pathogen-X, which offers a 3D survival experience.
Graphics and sounds
In line with the Japanese concept of VTubers, HoloCure opts for a ‘Kawaii’ approach. It offers old-school 2D graphics which will remind you of the first Final Fantasy games from the early 90s. As for the sounds, it plays chip-tune versions of VTubers hits, and each attack produces its own cute sound.
Fighting system
HoloCure has you fighting waves of enemies coming at you from all angles. Each character possesses unique skills that you can level up. Each time you kill enough enemies, your character levels up, and a new window will appear to let you buy skills or upgrade them. In addition to their unique skills, you can equip characters with weapons and pieces of armour to increase stats, including health, attack, speed, or critical.
Furthermore, when you kill enemies, your skill bar fills up. Once it’s full, you can unleash a special skill to eliminate a lot of opponents. You will need it when the game throws bosses at you, which are famous Hololive characters.
Shop
After playing for a while, you’ll have enough in-game coins to go to the shop and unlock new characters. The game features 20 iconic Vtubers. You can also purchase permanent stats upgrades for your character.
A fun gacha survival
If you’re a Hololive fan, this is a neat little game that will keep you playing until you unlock everything. It can also be entertaining for anyone who enjoys anime and old-school video games.
Moreover, it’s a passion project you can support and download for free. The waves of enemies will keep you busy and on your feet, unlocking new abilities along the way.
