Free retro vehicle battle game
Screenshots
Fumes is a free retro-inspired car battle game for Windows. Start with scrap and build it up into a vehicle with turrets, guns, performance enhancements and offroad components. Then, take your vehicle into a battle with others to cause some damage.
Retro games have made a massive comeback and are among the most popular games in the gaming sphere. If you're looking for a great alternative to Fumes, try Metal Slug and Security Booth.
Graphics
Fumes is reminiscent of the 90s, with its pixelated graphics, retro menus and in-game music. The game takes you back to the days of Vigilante 8 and Twisted Metal. Even though the graphics style looks like a really low-resolution photograph, the game isn’t low quality.
The cars are incredibly detailed even for their pixelated nature, and the game has advanced shader effects, so everything looks really polished. The cars also take damage, which always amplifies the game’s experience.
Gameplay
Fumes takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where your car is your greatest asset. Your car is more than a mode of transportation, it’s how you protect yourself. Build your car up in an easy-to-use editor accessed by driving up behind a parts truck.
Once you've got your car fitted with missiles, turrets and performance boosts, it's time to take on 10 different bosses in the vehicle-centric world. Take them down one by one and prove your mettle.
Performance
The game performs remarkably well. It's also pertinent to mention that Fumes is still a pre-alpha build. While that usually means you should expect to find bugs and glitches, Fumes runs like an alpha release. Particle effects and explosions are incredibly realistic and don't slow the game down.
Expect to be blown away by how smoothly the vehicles move and the finer nuances, like pitching and rolling. This game has a lot of attention to detail.
Nostalgic
If you're looking for a healthy dose of nostalgia in the games you play, make Fumes your next download. The graphics are insane for such a small game, and the attention to detail is unparalleled in the retro-inspired gaming world.
Fumes is still in a pre-alpha release state, so expect fixes, updates and patches. Given how much content is already in the game, in terms of cars and weapons, we wouldn't expect too much more in the final build.
