Snarl: Get Heads Up Notifications for Your PC

Snarl is the Windows equivalent of OS X's Growl notification application. The default Windows notifications are limited and Snarl aims to improve them by providing a platform and API for developers to integrate into their applications.
Snarl is easy to install and completely open source. After installation, system changes like the clock and network are automatically registered with Snarl to show notifications. The program offers a wide range of options in its settings, allowing users to customize the behavior, look, and feel of the notifications. Additionally, users can download themes and plugins to further enhance the program.
While Snarl supports popular applications like foobar, Pidgin, iTunes, and Spotify, registering applications with Snarl can be complicated. For example, users need to download an extension for foobar to make it work with Snarl. In contrast, Growl for Mac automatically detects any new application that supports its notification protocol.
Overall, Snarl is a great replacement for the default Windows notifications, but it could benefit from improvements in user-friendliness.
