Netflix is a streaming entertainment service that offers locally and internationally produced feature films and TV series. Viewers from over 190 countries can download Netflix and watch its ad-free content as much as they want from any internet-connected device. The more you watch on Netflix, the better its algorithm will be at recommending titles that you will like. This allows it to create an organized user interface that displays the best possible ordering of titles that you may watch. Netflix for Mac is compatible with all Apple computers running Mac OS X 10.10 or newer.

Recommendation System 

Netflix offers every subscriber a list of films and tv shows that suit their interests. This is made possible through its own propriety, complex recommendation system. It begins its process when you create a Netflix account or create a new profile. You will be asked to select a few shows and movies that you will most likely watch. This ‘jump starts’ the system into recommending titles of the same genre, release date, storyline, etc. Note that this is not permanent as Netflix bases recommendations on your most recently watched titles. 

The basic Netflix recommendation system estimates the likelihood that you will watch a film or series based on three major factors: viewing history, members with similar preferences, and information about the title. Information can be its country of origin, themes, director, etc. The algorithm also factors in what time you watch, which device you use, and how long you’re watching a particular title. For example, you were able to finish a series within a day or two. Netflix will start to recommend shows similar to it 

You can venture outside of Netflix’s recommendations by exploring its extensive catalog of movies and shows. A preview of the catalog can be seen in the app’s homepage, which consists of several rows of categories. Each row of titles is arranged by the number of viewers. The titles will still vary per profile as it still considers the titles you will usually prefer. Should you have other people using your Netflix account, you will see that each of them has their own personalized homepage.  

Plans and compatibility

As a subscription-based streaming platform, Netflix provides 3 subscription plans for its subscribers. You can choose between a Basic, Standard, or Premium plan. Each plan determines how many users can use your account at the same time, and whether you can watch in Standard Definition (SD), High Definition (HD), or Ultra High Definition (UHD). While you can choose any plan you want, it's important to note that Netflix for Mac does not offer 4K resolution. You will get the same features as other Netflix apps but the highest video resolution will be 1080p.

Top-notch viewing experience

Mac users may only be able to watch Netflix through in 1080p, but it has all the important features that can create a good viewing experience. Once you’ve signed-in to your Netflix account, the platform displays your favorite shows, series, and other similar content in organized rows. This is the service’s most notable feature as it allows you to spend more time watching titles that suit your taste.
