WhatsApp Messenger for Mac

WhatsApp for Mac is a renowned messaging service that has been around for some time now. Although you can use it on the web, WhatsApp for Mac has launched a desktop app for both Windows and Mac OS X platforms. This new desktop version of the app will be great for some users, as it no longer needs to take up space in your web browser. The new app basically works as an extension of your phone; it mirrors messages and conversations from your device. Using the desktop version of the app comes with advantages including proper native desktop notifications and better keyboard shortcuts. You simply need WhatsApp installed and working on your phone and Mac OS X 10.9 or later. Using the desktop version on your Mac is easy; as soon as you have downloaded and installed the app, you simply need to scan the QR code on the screen with your phone using WhatsApp (Open WhatsApp, click Menu and select WhatsApp Web). Then, as soon as it has been recognised, the desktop app will be linked with your account. It is worth noting that since the desktop app uses your mobile device to sync messages, it would probably be best to ensure that it is connected to Wi-Fi to avoid excessive data usage. The Mac App Store is a digital distribution platform for the Mac OS X user to locate an abundance of Mac apps. The Mac App Store comes as part of the update to Mac OS X v10.6.6. The minimum system requirements for the platform are: A Mac computer with an Intel processor. Mac OS X v10.6.6 or later. Internet access. An iTunes or iCloud account. Once your update has been installed, you can view apps in the Mac App Store, where you can browser categories such as; top sales, top free, top grossing and editors choice, as well as staff favourites.

Th-MakerX for Mac

Th-MakerX for Mac makes resized image files of dropped image files*. You can also drop folders which contain image files as well. Th-MakerX for Mac resizes image with a pre-specified resize mode. Acceptable image file formats: BMP, GIF, JP2, JPEG, MacPaint, PDF, Photoshop, PICT, PNG, QuickTime Image, SGI, TGA, TIFF and so on ( supported types by Cocoa; these differ depending on OS X version). Output image file format: JPEG or PNG. Resize mode: width, height, fit, crop, area, ratio. Margin, watermark adding feature. Image resolution (DPI) adjusting feature. Parallels for Mac

Parallels allows Apple users to run Windows on a Mac OS X computer. The software creates a Windows virtual machine that is able to run alongside the native operating system. Whilst Apple's Bootcamp app creates a bootable copy of Windows. Parallels is different in that it runs Windows within an environment on OS X. If you need it, Windows can be run in its own window, in full screen mode, or in an integrated view called Coherence. Coherence allows Mac and Windows apps to be used side by side. Key features include: Ultimate flexibility. Retina display support. Connect devices. One-click performance tuning. Office 365 integration. Save disc space. Travel mode. Works with Boot Camp. Parallels can modify the standard Mac OS X interface, and adds a new window control button for any VMs. Along with the existing buttons that close and minimise windows, Parallels has a new button, which allows you to switch a VM into Coherence mode, thereby hiding the Windows desktop. This then allows any Windows apps to seamlessly sit right on the Mac OS desktop. A great feature of Parallels that is worth noting, is when you run Windows 10 in Coherence mode, the Windows Action Centre is able to be viewed as a panel, which slides in from the right-hand side of the screen, next to the Notification panel in Mac OS X. Overall, Parallels is not the only virtualization option that is available for Mac OS X users who need to run Windows apps. It is, however, more of a polished product than the other products. The close integration of both Windows OS and Mac OS provides users the best of both worlds. You can switch easily between apps, regardless of which operating system they were written for, especially using Coherence.

iMovie

Apple iMovie allows you to create stunning HD movies and Hollywood-style trailers. You can browse your video library and easily share your favourite videos. Videos can be imported from external devices and then easily tweaked, re-arranged and edited before you share them or burn them to a DVD. Audacity for Mac

Audacity is a free, easy-to-use audio editor and recorder for Windows, Mac OS X, GNU/Linux and other operating systems. You can use Audacity to: Record live audio. Where Audacity is to be used for lengthy multi-track projects, we recommend a minimum of 2 GB RAM and 2 GHz processor (4 GB RAM on OS X 10.7 or later).

uTorrent for Mac

uTorrent is one of the world's most popular torrent clients. It's full of useful features such as scheduling, bandwidth prioritization and compatibility with BitComet-Mainline DHT. uTorrent also supports peer exchange and the Protocol Encryption joint specification (compatible with Vuze / Azureus 2.4.0.0 and above and BitComet 0.63 and above). Unlike many other torrent clients available, uTorrent does not eat away at valuable system resources; in fact, the program typically runs on approx. 6MB of memory. uTorrent is contained within a single executable file, smaller than 1 MB. The uTorrent software was designed to use only minimal resources, yet still offering the functionality comparable to larger BitTorrent clients. uTorrent is very user-friendly; the program updates are not scheduled and are only released when thoroughly tested. This product is available for all major releases of OS X. µTorrent provides high quality service in a tiny package.

Transmission

Transmission is a simple BitTorrent client for MacOS X, giving users everything they need to download torrents fast. While Transmission doesn't boast complex advanced features, it functions perfectly well as a compact and highly usable client with virtually no learning curve. On install, Transmission will function on most Macs without any system tweaking, making it ideal for the novice user. Its developers boast that it has an extremely low memory footprint, so most OS X users should be able to let it run in the background without worrying about system performance. Transmission is also available as a Linux application. It's actually bundled with Ubuntu, although it's available for most Unix distributions. Other benefits include: Scores of third party apps and add-ons to make Transmission even more useful, including Android remote controls, browser extensions and IM plugins. Ad-free interface and open source philosophy, allowing the software to be truly free. Neat dovetailing with the OS X interface, including support for GNOME. Support for magnet links, encryption and UPnP. Best of all, Transmission can be controlled remotely from anywhere using just a web browser.

XAMPP for Mac

XAMPP for Mac is an easy to install Apache distribution for Mac OS X, Windows, Linux and Solaris. The package includes the Apache web server, MySQL, PHP, Perl, a FTP server and phpMyAdmin. XAMPP for Mac has been designed to be the easiest way to install and run a development server. There are numerous other WAMP packages available, but XAMPP for Mac is one of the most complete on offer. In addition to Apache, MySQL, and PHP, XAMPP includes other really useful tools such as the phpMyAdmin database administration tool, FileZilla FTP server, Mercury mail server, Perl programming language, and JSP server Tomcat. In the XAMPP for Mac control panel you can configure the above services with ease. It can also install an administration site as the home page of the server; from which you can undertake all manner of administrative tasks, such as checking the server status and security, launch tools like phpMyAdmin and Webalizer analytics. You can also view PHP demos which can be of use for those developers who are just starting out. Overall, XAMPP for Mac is a great tool for anyone looking to get a full development server up and running within quick time constraints. The only issue that we can see, is that because it is so easy to setup, it doesn't have the security features for this to be used as a production server. PhotoScape X

PhotoScape X for Mac is a well presented app for viewing and editing photos. It offers a whole host of tools that make viewing your favourite pictures a lot easier. Although the user interface is basic in appearance, you do have the choice of several themes, which add a bit of colour and variety to this functional app. Once you click on an image, you can start editing straight away using common tools like Resize, Crop, Colour Adjustment, Eye Correction, Sharpen and Blur. Once you've finished editing you can then save your image in the same location or choose to save it separately. Photos can also be shared on social networks like Facebook, Twitter, Picasa and Flickr. PhotoScape X for Mac also features a GIF creation tool, which is great when you consider you don't pay a penny for this application. You can also batch edit multiple photos and merge photos to create fun collages. All in all, PhotoScape X for Mac is a very functional, photo editing app, that is a great alternative to iPhoto.
