Learn Music With Audio-Games - Learn to Play Music by Collecting Colors!

Audiosurf is an interactive puzzle platform created by Dylan Fitterer, a musician based in New York City. Its track-style scenes visually mirror the musical pieces the player chooses, as the player races around many lanes collecting colorful blocks which appear in sync with the audio. It is a cool game and probably one of my favorites on the net. The only issue I have seen is that it is not available for those who are using Windows operating systems, and as a result some users are finding that they are not able to run the program on their PC. There may be some technical difficulties but I have not been able to locate them. The basic action of the game is to collect all the colored blocks and place them on your playfield. You then use the mouse to take a snapshot of each one you collect, which earns you points. The more you collect, the more points you earn. It is possible to increase the difficulty levels too, so that the later levels become even more challenging. In the advanced levels of audiosurf, you will also be able to play other players online, play against them for score and even customise the playing keyboard and screen with other game-related functions such as enabling or disabling the screen saver.
Apart from being a cool game, it is a good teaching tool too for those kids who are either studying music or interested in pursuing a career in music. While it does not feature some complicated musical instruments, it does provide a nice introduction to different instruments and helps you develop your own listening and playing skills, besides introducing you to the basics of rhythm and the like. However, if you really want to try out the online version of audiosurf, I have found a site which provides a transcript, of the lessons in the online version of audiosurf, which you can follow at your leisure.
