Settlers II - 10th Anniversary Review
The Settlers II - 10th Anniversary is an open-world city-builder video game released by Blue Byte and developed by Ubisoft. It is a sequel of The Settlers: The Quest for the Kingdom, a release which revitalized the franchise by revamping the gameplay and the visual aspects of the original release. It is an excellent City-builder/Simulation game and Blue Byte's most successful release. Released for Microsoft Windows on September 2021, it's a remake of The Settlers II: The Quest for the Kingdom.
As in the earlier game The Settlers II, in this game the player takes control of one of the main characters, a mayor called Paul Danziger. Like in the earlier game, you are to take care of maintaining peace and order within the borders of your realm. Naturally, given the nature of the game, there will be a bit of adventuring - travelling between settlements and fighting off marauding tribes as you go. The visuals are still decent, though not as good as some of the later games in the series.
Overall, Settlers II - 10th anniversary is another solid game in the long series. Some of the things that make this game special are the in-game conversations with the locals, the historical background of the environment, as well as the overall interface and user interface. The combat system is what sets it apart from the rest, including a new type of tower defence where your castle must protect itself from waves of attacking enemy soldiers. Overall, this game is very enjoyable, though not especially memorable or challenging - unlike the first game, where there was a lot more action. Overall, it's a great City-builder game with great graphics and a challenging gameplay, but ultimately does not compare to the other games in the series.
