Which Music Players Are Compatible With Which Platforms?

Music players are specialized media software which are designed to play music files stored in the hard drive. These devices support a large number of music file formats, such as MP3, WMA, and WAV. The most common type of these players is the Portable Music Player or the Portable Player. It is an open source program that runs on Windows operating systems. Windows-based music players run on the boot sector of the hard drive. The other type, the Stand Alone Music Player, is installed inside a folder of Windows called the "My Computer".

WMA: Windows based music player software are usually designed for use with the Windows operating system. These are normally available on the internet for free. WMA files can be played on almost any mobile phone or portable music device that supports the Windows MSM file sharing technology.

A Winamp file, a file used by some other Windows media player, is a wrapper that overcomes various limitations that the regular Windows media player experiences. Among these Winamp features are the ability to read & play FLV files and convert MP3 files to FLV format. Also it enables the playback and recording of live speech. It is a freeware that can be downloaded from the Winamp website.
