Mushroom Kingdom Fusion (sometimes referred to simply as Mushroom Wars) is an updated fan game based on the famous Mushroom Kingdom video game series, with a heavy dose of fan made content added to make it more interesting and worth looking forward to. The main goal of the game is to take control of all three kingdoms and eliminate all aliens that have invaded their land. From a technical perspective the game can be regarded to be similar to Sonic and Mario in some ways, as you are required to use different strategies to beat the bosses, collect power ups and level up your character. For the time being, the game is not yet released for the PC but a demo can be downloaded for free from its website.
One of the major changes in Mushroom Kingdom Fusion is that the power system has been completely overhauled, giving players a lot more to look forward to. Powerups used to be very rare and powerful, given only to limited playable characters and boss battles. However in Mushroom Kingdom Fusion, every character starts with one of them - depending on the player's choice - and using them will drastically change gameplay. As an example, Wario starts with a super jump ability, giving him incredible speed and ability to easily escape from almost any situation. The same goes for Sonic, who now starts with a fly ability that allows him to easily move across platforms without too much trouble.
Although there are still no announcements regarding an official release date for the Mushroom Kingdom Fusion, it is already providing its fans with great expectations. The game's producer, Nicalis, is also currently working on a new release for the Wii, which is rumoured to be a follow up to Sonic and Mario's Omega expansion pack. In addition to this, the development team is also working on a new game called Idol Master for the PSP. Given the great reception of Mushroom Kingdom Fusion, it's safe to assume that future entries in the Mario game play universe will see a lot more changes and improvements.
