F1® 2021, developed by Codemasters and published by Electronic Arts, features the new narrative-driven story mode Braking Point as well as expanded Career and multiplayer options. The game introduces the Braking Point story experience, enhances the Career mode with a two-player online option, and offers a variety of ways to play for both solo and multiplayer-focused players.

Braking Point introduces a narrative-focused story mode that follows the careers of characters including Aiden Jackson, Casper Akkerman, and the returning Devon Butler. The mode presents a scripted, cinematic storyline set within the world of Formula One, offering players a narrative experience that complements the traditional racing structure and adds dramatic context to their progression through the sport.

The career mode introduces significant enhancements, most notably a two-player online cooperative and competitive mode. Players can either work together as teammates or compete against one another as rival teams, adding social depth to career progression. The game also adds the Real-Season Start feature, enabling players to enter the championship using the current real-world standings.

The traditional My Team mode returns, letting players create a driver, choose a sponsor, an engine supplier, hire a teammate and compete as the 11th team on the grid. To deepen team management, Department Events present scenario-based decisions that can influence both development and overall performance.

Moreover, players can begin their career in Formula 2 or jump straight into Formula One, offering flexibility in how their journey unfolds. To support different play styles, the game also includes two-player split-screen racing, a variety of driving assist options, and extensive customization features covering driver appearance, car livery, and race setups. However, the game does not support cross-platform multiplayer, meaning players can only race online with others on the same platform.
