Commandos: Strike Force Review
Commandos: Strike Force is the third and final chapter of the Commandos franchise and also the first person shooter video game. It's developed by Pyro Studios, a small independent video game developer based in Europe. For any games in the Commandos franchise, this is where the story begins, and it turns out that Jason "Kasper" Kavanz is once again deployed to a dangerous assignment, this time to infiltrate and attack the terrorists' stronghold. He has the support of his friends aboard a helicopter which has been lent to them by their US Army Staff, but with sabotage and death on the side of the terrorists they are not sure if their mission can actually be completed...
The story is told through cut-scenes that you view while you're playing as one of the characters in the game - Kavanz, a Marine who was one of the earlier Commandos. You can move and view the environment through the eyes (that you can change) of the character you are controlling, and take control of their weapons to do their best to protect the life of their fellow soldiers who are also part of the game. Although one might expect that the graphics that were used for the previous Commandos games have been taken away in this latest release, that isn't the case at all. Each weapon is featured in the game in a full 3D state, and each model looks as though it could be placed next to their real life counterpart. This makes the game's weaponry and abilities more realistic, giving a real feeling when using them.
Commandos: Strike Force offers a much tighter focus on realism compared to its predecessors, and although the storyline does grow to some degree, it doesn't reach the same level of detail as its predecessors. However, this game is certainly not a weak point in the Commandos franchise. As with the previous games, you can expect to find an excellent single player campaign, plenty of multiplayer options, and a large variety of different maps and difficulty settings to play on. Therefore, if you were worried about the direction of the franchise, you shouldn't be, as Commandos: Strike Force has everything you want from a first-person shooter. It will most definitely keep you playing for many hours and is sure to provide hours of enjoyable single player action!
