Area 51 - Space Gun is Not the Greatest Arcade Game Ever
Area 51: Space Gun is a midpoint-home-entertainment arcade game, originally intended to be released for the Nintendo Entertainment system. The arcade is set inside a giant space ship and follows the plot of the famous animated science fiction movie series, far better than its predecessors. The action is taken place on two different areas of the ship, where you must defend Earth from the forces of the bad guys (the evil pirates) and fight your way to the top of the tower.
Area 51 is an on-rails, shoot-em-up, arcade version of space adventure related to the popular TV show, Star Trek. The graphics are very good, the action is fast paced and the music fits the theme very well. The Saturn ION is actually one of the first arcade machines to use the Sega Saturn chip and has a great sound. The Saturn ION also has the famous "chase" feature where constantly changing panels chase you around the screen and finish off with one to three bonus rounds. The Saturn ION is not only a great addition to any home gaming system, it also makes a great console light gun games addition to your collection!
Area 51 features a mission-type system, where you must complete five missions before finally facing off against the bad guy. The Saturn ION also has four extra lives, which can sometimes prove to be useful when things get pretty tough! Overall we would have to say that while the arcade version of Area 51 is not the best by any means it is still a very enjoyable game to play, and one of the very few console light gun games that is worth playing for any real fan of science fiction or video games!
