A free, smartphone-only YouTube video downloader
TubeMate 3 is a piece of software that allows you to download YouTube videos on your smartphone. It is similar to GiliSoft YouTube Video Downloader. The interface looks like a video player in its own right, allowing you to navigate through different videos in a simplistic fashion. It then allows you to pick the videos that you want to download.
Just like ClipGrab, this video downloader does allow you to download more than one video at a time, but it doesn't make it immediately obvious how you go about doing this.
This downloader is not on any online store. TubeMate 3 is free to download from several websites and needs to be installed directly. This may put some people off, but the unpacking and installing follow pretty standard DRM rules.
Is TubeMate 3 on the Play store?
Installing the TubeMate 3 software doesn't require rooting, and the installer is self-contained. It is similar to how you download and install GOG.com games without needing a third-party installer or installation platform.
Does TubeMate 3 still work?
The reason why this video downloader and video converter is updated so often is that it has to account for changes in the YouTube website and keep up with smartphone operating systems, too.
A possible problem may be that your security settings are not allowing you to add apps outside of the usual channels (trademarked online stores). Once you work around any installation hiccups, the app will start to work correctly. If it has stopped working, then you probably need to update your TubeMate app.
Few instructions on how it functions
This is an unusually good piece of smartphone downloader software, but it downloads videos from the Google-owned YouTube and Facebook, which is why much of its online instructions seem to have been suppressed. Finding out how to install it correctly and use it is more difficult than one may expect.
The fact that this video downloading software is updated so often means that it is unlikely to go stale or become useless any time soon. It is just a shame this tool isn't easier to install because its day-to-day tools are pretty intuitive.
