Free Horror Game

MapFriend is a free horror game developed for Windows by Paper Cookies. This game offers an interface similar to the one you’d find in Google Maps, but it puts a horror twist on it, with points of interest that will make you discover creepy imagery. Mapfriend offers a short but entertaining experience with a simple layout resembling Windows XP menus.
With information that’s updated live from popular blogs, this is an unusual format for a first-person horror game. If you enjoy this genre, try Sinister Within: Decay, Granny, or Beware The Shadowcatcher for more chills and thrills.
GeoGuessr with horror
MapFriend could be described as if someone took GeoGuessr and made it a horror game. Players have to explore a map presented like Google Maps and zoom in to get to their objective. The more you zoom, the more detailed the map gets until you switch to a fps view similar to Street View. Then you must explore to find a crashed plane, for instance, and you’ll discover many scary things without cheap effects or jump scares.
Visual presentation & sound
MapFriend delivers a minimalistic visual presentation with an interface that looks like Windows XP. In this windowed view, you have tools allowing you to zoom and move around the map to reach red pins, which are points of interest. Then, you may find some disturbing things while exploring the surroundings in the Street View mode.
The game’s sound is also minimalistic and atmospheric; you’ll hear nothing but the sound of old computers running in the background and the noises the map software makes when clicking or zooming. This creates an ambience that will send chills down your spine and keep you on edge during the entirety of the experience.
Unsettling horror game
MapFriend puts a creepy twist on a type of app we’re very familiar with, turning it into a source of horror. It’s a game you can play by yourself in the dark or make a friend play by telling them it’s GeoGuessr for a good scare. This is an original idea for immersing you in a horror game. It’s extremely refreshing to see one that’s not based in a deserted building of some kind with nothing but shadowy corridors and jump-scares.
MapFriend is available for free on Windows, in a short experience offering a creepy atmosphere and unsettling, horrific discoveries without relying on high-end graphics or complicated gameplay.
