Late Night Mop is a free horror game for Windows by LixianGames. It’s essentially a haunted house cleaning simulator. Yes, you read that right. In this game, it’s your task to clean up a haunted house in the middle of the night.
As it turns out, that's the reason you’re being called to clean so late. So, while you’re mopping the floors and taking out the trash, a demon’s waiting for you. In the same vein as Haunt: The Real Slender Game, and Eyes - The Horror Game, you play in first person and explore an environment filled with terrors.
Excellent graphics and atmosphere
Late Night Mop looks excellent. The lighting effects throughout the house are very well thought out, and everything gives an uneasy feeling. The environments and the items are highly detailed, and there are no subpar textures or other defects.
There’s no music in Late Night Mop which is a shame because creepy music would add to the game’s setting. That being said, there are some great sound effects. Everything sounds perfect: the floor creaking, the scrubbing, getting keys. There are some unique sound effects when something nasty happens or is about to.
Not a generic horror adventure
There are many indie horror games, but Late Night Mop is infused with a lot of personality. Your task is to clean the house, haunted or not. This means getting to work with the mop and throwing out trash. You do this with typical WASD commands and left mouse click to interact with objects.
The developers’ effort shows in the small details. For instance, the mop animations are great, showing they took some time with it. The same can be said for the environment and interactions in the game world.
Get your bucket and start mopping
Late Night Mop is an easy choice for horror game fans. It’s a fresh take on a saturated genre, which makes this game stand out. Every ending is worth exploring, too, especially the ones that don’t end so well for you.
Another point is that you have to actually do something, unlike other games where you only interact with the environment because the game says so. And of all things, you have to clean a house. The concept is original and intriguing. Its tense atmosphere, great sound effects and gorgeous graphics definitely make it worth checking out.
