BookPad: Cloud-Based Document Editing App Acquired by Yahoo

BookPad, the cloud-based document editing app, has recently been acquired by Yahoo. This startup was founded by three IIT-Guwahati graduates who identified the need for an app that allows users to view and edit documents. Unlike traditional software programs, BookPad enables users to edit documents directly on the web. The app also facilitates collaboration among users, regardless of their geographical location. In order to further their growth, the founders of BookPad have decided to relocate to Silicon Valley.
Headquartered in Bangalore, BookPad has offices and an incubator in the city. Since its establishment in 2013, the startup has received support from NASSCOM and Microsoft Ventures. As a book viewing app, BookPad competes with industry giants like Microsoft and Adobe. During an InnoTrek trip to Silicon Valley, the company's employees had the opportunity to meet with Yahoo representatives, despite facing visa challenges.
BookPad utilizes cloud-based technology, making it accessible across all devices without the need for desktop software. It is compatible with nearly 15 document formats, including PDF and HTML, and allows users to add annotations and edit documents within the app. With its cross-platform functionality, there is no need for additional plug-ins or software. The service was developed by M&A consultant, Rob Schram, who is also a major investor in the company.
