Free mod for Freespace 2

Star Fox: Event Horizon by UndyingNephalim is a free mod for the game Freespace 2. This mod aims to recreate Star Fox with the Freespace 2 engine. While it’s now a mod, the creator aims for it to eventually become a standalone title that can be played without the full Freespace 2 game.
Unlike other shooters such as Brutal Doom or Ravenfield, Star Fox: Event Horizon mixes shooting with spaceship flying. Players can choose their favourite characters from Star, including Krystal, with Estelle Ellis herself doing the voiceovers. Of course, there’s the option to use popular ships like the Arwing.
Excellent production values
Everything, from graphics to animations, to effects, is simply incredible. The cutscenes are great, with fully animated characters. The game world is well-developed, and a load of fun to play in. While there are some minor issues, these are very sporadic, and the developer is constantly updating the game.
There are over 30 ships and more than 25 characters to play with. All the planets from the series are present, and of course, new ones too. The original engine is put to good use, and you can expect the same amount of visual effects, animations and backgrounds as in Freespace 2.
More expansive than the original games
Because of the nature of Freespace 2, this game offers even more than the originals did. There are typical rail-shooter sections and also free-roaming parts. All of them are much bigger than anything Nintendo ever created for the Star Fox games.
The developer also claims that massive battles can develop, with thousands of fighters and hundreds of capital ships.
Phenomenal take on the Star Fox saga
Star Fox: Event Horizon gets everything right: it truly feels like a AAA title instead of a single indie developer’s creation. It expands the Star Fox universe, adding more content than there ever was. Graphic-wise it looks fantastic, and characters are very detailed and faithful to the originals.
Aside from this, everything is nicely polished, and all gameplay elements work. The rails and open sections are thoughtfully created, and nothing feels artificial. Overall, the title is very enjoyable and a must for Star Fox fans and anybody that likes space shooters.
