OBS Studio is an open-source program for real-time video editing and live streaming. Also known as Open Broadcaster Software Studio, this software allows you to integrate multiple sources of media such as webcams, capture cards, window captures, browser windows, etc. All videos, audio recordings, and images from these sources can be edited on OBS. The program has an extensive set of tools for video and photo editing as well as an audio mixer. By combining your hardware with these tools, you can enhance your live broadcasts from any Apple computer running macOS 10.12 or newer.
Features
The core of OBS Studio is the Sources and Scenes as most of your resources will be placed in one of these two sections. It is important to understand that Scenes are just one of the Sources in this program. This means you can create an unlimited number of Scenes with a limited number of Sources. Examples of other sources include Audio Input/Output Capture, Game Capture. Media Source, Text Pango and VLC Video Source.
Once you have selected from the list of sources, you will see a red box around your Source’s window. This lets you know that a window can be repositioned, resized or cropped. The cropping capability is necessary for removing other programs from the audience’s view. With the media you were able to source, you can create a Scene. The Scenes can be labeled with letters, numbers, and symbols but it cannot have the same name as a Source. For example, you cannot label a Scene ‘Game’ when a Source has already taken the same name.
Well-built streaming program
OBS Studio hosts other features that can enhance the appearance of your live stream such as Scene Transitions, Filters, Mixers, SRT Protocols, etc. With so many features, OBS is best suited for users with experience in broadcasting or advanced live streaming. This allows them to project various forms of media while simultaneously editing them. New users or hobbyists can also use this program as well. The number of features can be overwhelming but it is plain and organized layout can help you learn the locations and uses of each tool.
