McMoney: passive income through text messages
Screenshots
McMoney is a tool for testing and improving global communication, which it does so by sending SMS messages to check how well the sending process went. From the user’s point of view, McMoney incentivises its testers by paying cash to receive SMS messages.
While apps like GnuCash focus on accounting, and apps like GeltBox Money focus on personal finances, McMoney is purely a way of earning a small amount of passive income from your phone simply by receiving text messages.
Data collection
McMoney essentially tests mobile network speeds by sending text messages to users’ phones and registering how long it took for the message to be received. This information is valuable to mobile phone providers since it lets them know how their networks are performing. McMoney provides this information and shares the revenue they generate from it with their users.
Using the app requires you to register your phone number, and text messages come at more or less random intervals. The text messages themselves just contain a string of random characters, and you do not need to save the message or even manually register that you have received it—the app will take care of all of that for you.
Low effort but also low reward
Given that you do not need to respond to the text messages you receive, and you don’t need to delete them after they have arrived, you can theoretically make money using this app without any effort at all, since the app automatically logs messages received. Your account will automatically be credited, and you can cash out to PayPal once you have at least $1.
However, the rates of pay provided by McMoney are very small when compared to other passive income apps, and the small rates of pay combined with the irregularity of the messages received make it practically impossible to earn a lot of money using the app. That being said, the app is designed to be used passively for a little extra income, not as an active money-making program.
