Filia Regis is a free furry visual novel for Windows in which you play the central character Morvis. What begins as a seemingly familiar story soon becomes a cross-reality adventure. In the dialogue between the various characters you encounter, you frequently have two or three options to influence the direction of the story.

One characteristic that sets Filia Regis apart from other visual novels is the fact that the cast are all animals in human form. Another visual novel featuring human-like animals that's worth checking out is Dawn Chorus. For a visual novel with a sci-fi theme, Infinite Stars is worth a look.

Plot

Depending on your character choice at the beginning of the story, you'll either start as a humble peasant or an exiled knight. Whichever character you choose will decide the perspective from which you experience the story in Filia Regis. In either case, the decisions you make as you go along determine your destiny. Either way, it's a story full of kings, peasants, queens, courtiers, knights and goddesses.

Characters

There's a wide variety of anthropomorphic characters, all drawn in pixel art. Some of them appear in both strands of the adventure. How they react to you will depend on your decisions and what you choose to say to them.

Controls

Filia Regis has many control options that you can use to navigate the story, including skipping forward and backwards in the dialogue. There's even a built-in control for taking a screenshot in case you want to share or save a specific scene. You can play the game using either your mouse or keyboard.

Furry adventure

Filia Regis does an excellent job of creating the post-revolution atmosphere from the opposite perspectives. Although the graphics are decidedly low-resolution, the story and the dialogue are so well-written that they do enough to help keep the reader engaged throughout.

The underlying politics of the post monarchy story prevent Filia Regis from being a lightweight story. There are enough options and story paths to keep your interest over multiple plays of this free download.
