Free dungeon-crawler game for Mac
Screenshots
Die in the Dungeon is a free new game developed by Alarts for Mac. Crawling through dark dungeons is where the similarity ends. For starters, you’re a little green frog. Also, unlike most turn-based rogue-lites, you form your strategy from the dice that you own rather than cards.
You must put together the best possible combination of powers and skills to defeat the enemies that you meet in each room of the dungeon. As usual, if your combo is more powerful than your adversary’s, you get to move onto the next level. If you’re a fan of roguelikes, you’re bound to enjoy Holo Dungeon, Dungeons of Dredmor and DoomRL too.
Is Die in the Dungeon free?
It’s free if you want it to be. When you click on the ‘Download Now’ button, you’ll be given the option to help support the developer’s work. You can pay the suggested amount, or one of the higher amounts shown. If you prefer not to pay anything, just click on the skip option to go directly to the download page.
How long has Die in the Dungeon been out?
Die in the Dungeon was created during the week-long Brackeys Game Jam competition in February 2021. Competitors were tasked with creating a game under the theme ‘Better together’ in just seven days.
Since its creation in February 2021, Alarts has continued developing the game. The developer can be contacted via Discord, and sometimes user feedback informs the game’s development.
How do I remove Die in the Dungeon?
It’s as simple as removing any other program from your Mac.
- Go to the location where you saved the program
- Right-click on the app and select ‘Move to Bin’
- Right-click on the Bin and select ‘Empty Bin’
Retro graphics and gameplay
Alarts did a very good initial job on the app in the time-restraint of the Game Jam week. Since then, they’ve had time to build it into a more complete game. The pixel-art graphics and simple interface make it very easy to play.
We particularly admire the originality of replacing the traditional cards with dice. Introducing more of them as the game progresses is another smart move because it adds complexity to your strategising. Whether you’re a fan of dungeon crawlers or not, Die in the Dungeon is definitely worth installing.
