Movavi Split Movie for Mac
Movavi Split Movie for Mac is toll very similar to Apple's long standing QuickTime Pro app. This multi-purpose video cutting program lets you split videos into any number of fragments, chop out out unwanted segments, such as commercials, from your favorite video files, and trim down your video clips. You can also join multiple fragments into single video files, and because there is no re-encoding to take place, the process doesn't affect the quality and takes much less time. With Movavi Split Movie you basically get an entire editing studio in one app. You can split, merge, and cut movies in AVI, MKV, MP4, WMV, MPEG-TS (MTS), MOV, FLV, MPEG, H.264, to name a few supported formats. Not resembling other Mac editing suites, this tool is able to process multimedia without the need to re-encode and perform post-conversion. This preserves the original quality and allows you to edit movies on your Mac up to 20x faster than some other products. The interface is fairly straightforward with thumbnails of your images within your movie at the bottom of the window, coupled to a timeline and large viewer pane above. Navigation through your movie file is done by clicking on the timeline or within the thumbnail area. The right side of the window you'll see a clips bin, with Split and Join buttons below. The workflow is easy as well. Simply launch drag a video file into the window. This places the video in the bin as a single clip; the thumbnails from the movie then appear at the bottom of the window. The app’s controls appear above the thumbnails pane are then active and can be used to edit. When you have finished editing all your clips you can then export the results with the Split and Join buttons which appear below the clips bin. When you click Split any clips in the bin are then exported in their native format, as individual movies. To join those clip together you simply click Join. This joins the clips and exports them as a single movie. As you edit and export files in native formats, no format conversion is required. The app supports AVI, MOV, WMV, MP4, FLV, MKV, MPG, MTS, M2TS, TS, and TOD files. This saves time, however the convenience offered is sacrificed at the expense of not being able to encode your work in a different format when splitting or joining. Overall, the app is ok to use, however there are a few caveats that may make you think twice before buying the full version. The app seems to be a tad 'Windows' esq and it doesn't feel like a native Mac app. Things like the Keyboard shortcuts, for example, although they are adequate, could be improved (most users will perform the cmd + s function to Save a clip, not to split a clip). The menus are likewise not in standard format with the Edit menu located to the right of a Playback menu instead of next to the File menu. If you can get over these quirks then the app isn't that bad, but if you are a pure Mac aficionado then maybe look elsewhere?
