New ones get unlocked as you defeat each wave’s boss, reaching up to ten different systems, like core, synth, void device, prestige, reactor, and more. Since the mechanics demand you to play the long game, every single upgrade made is crucial. Otherwise, you’d end up wasting hours’ worth of gameplay having focused on the wrong upgrades and needing to restart the game. Besides that learning curve to beat, the overall slow trickle of experience is enjoyable.
