Free PC horror game
The Vermander Curse is a free horror PC game developed by Zed_Technician. It’s a 3D first-person horror Windows game, borrowing ideas from titles like Silent Hill. What sets it apart is that the game only lasts an hour, which heightens the tension.
If you’re looking for other experiences to send chills down your spine, try Beware the Shadowcatcher or Eyes.
Storyline
As is the case with most horror media, the story is just a pretext to put you in stressful situations you can only get out of by performing tasks. J.P. Vermander, the owner of the hospital you work for is furious upon discovering that the hospital only generated a 1% revenue last month.
As any sensible businessman would do, he decides to summon a demon that will kill everyone in an hour. Your goal is to close windows, turn off lights or answer ringing phones to save yourself, the staff, and the three patients.
One-hour adventure
The Vermander Curse only lasts an hour, but you’ll have to play it multiple times if you want to finish it completely. This horror game has four different endings that depend on your actions during the allotted hour.
During your exploration of this creepy hospital, you’ll encounter several characters, which are humanoid animals. There will be various tasks to complete to get to the end and prevent the demon’s arrival.
Graphics & sounds
The Vermander Curse is very minimalist when it comes to graphics and sounds. The visuals are halfway between those of a PS1 game and PS2; it plays with this vintage style to create a creepy vibe with low-polygon models and textures. There’s also music and very few sound effects; the majority of the game’s sounds are in the background.
A thrilling horror game
The Vermander Curse relies on classic horror game tropes to scare its players, but it still works. You explore an almost empty hospital with blinking lights, and the low-resolution graphics help convey the feeling of uneasiness along with the silence that’s only broken when something terrifying happens.
The Vermander Curse is free to download and play for Windows PCs.
