Shrek The Third is an all-out action, adventure video game released for the xBox in fall 2007. Shrek (voiced by Mike Myers) is an ogre who live in the green world of Shrek (a fantasy world) and is an absolute green. He lives with his two loyal buddies Donkey (voiced by Eddie Murphy), Princess Fiona (Cary Elwes) and Lord Farquaad (Peter Shaffer). This is basically a platform game in which you play as Shrek and run through the different levels trying to save the princess from the clutches of the evil king.
Like most things related to Shrek the Third (and the first two films as well) the game is very easy to pick up and to master. The controls are simple and don't have any complicated moving parts. The graphics are fairly basic but fit the theme of Shrek (and of course the 3 films). The overall game play is about three or four times as long as that of the earlier Shrek films. The overall story is about a fairy tale type set in medieval times and follows a group of characters (some of whom you'll recognize from the earlier Shrek movies) who must save the Earth from the evil king.
This game is similar in tone and subject matter to the earlier Shrek films, in terms of fantasy elements and visual treats. However, it doesn't quite come across as being too 'fairytale' like and it doesn't have quite the same kind of humor that the earlier films had. Instead, it is more of a dark comedy with well placed humorous moments. If you've never seen the Shrek films then this is a great introduction to them for those who are new to the series. If you've seen the films already and liked them, then this game is worth playing even if you haven't seen the next two yet.
