PhotoMath: free maths learning app
Screenshots
PhotoMath is an app designed to help you learn maths using visual cues, word problem explanations and an intuitive text reading feature that allows you to snap a picture of your work and have the app transcribe the sums automatically to help you work out the answers and understand the methods.
This app is geared more towards school-level maths, as opposed to other maths aids, like MathType, which is designed for complex equations, or ChemMaths, which focuses on maths in the context of chemistry.
Detailed explanations
PhotoMaths is a learning aid and does not just provide the answers to the problems you pose, but instead walks you through the process step-by-step so that you understand the methodology behind it. If there is more than one way to solve a problem, it will also show you multiple solving methods for that problem.
Is using PhotoMath cheating?
The app is intended to aid in the learning of methods and problem-solving techniques. It could be used to cheat on homework or exams, but that is not the intention of the app. Instead, it is intended to be used when you are unsure of how to solve a particular problem, not just to provide you with the answer.
A detailed, all-in-one maths learning solution
While the marquee feature of the app is the ability to easily get help with problem-solving by pointing your camera at your page, the app does also provide other more standard features, such as a scientific calculator and interactive graphs. PhotoMaths covers a wide range of mathematical concepts, including trigonometry, calculus, algebra and statistics.
The main strength of PhotoMaths, however, lies in its ability to walk you through the mathematical problems you face. Whether it be with a step-by-step walkthrough of the problem on your page, access to an extensive list of solving methods, or even how-to animations. It should be noted, however, that the text recognition can struggle with handwriting that is not very neat.
