Free fantasy visual novel
Life After Magic for Windows is a free fantasy visual novel with magical girls called Sentinels. After saving the world several times, the world is at peace and they are no longer needed. Y2K is approaching with parties planned for the New Year, when a new villain arises. Alternative visual novels you can play include ERROR143, Purrgatory and Don't Toy With Me.
The gameplay involves reading through the story and dialogue with a few choices along the way. It will take you several hours to complete the game, developed by a full team. In the end, you’ll need to make the right choices to overcome your enemies and save the day.
You are one of the heroes formerly known as Sentinels in Life After Magic. While you were once needed to help save the world, the villains are all defeated. With no more use for your powers, you find a job, having dropped out of school to fight enemies. As the Y2K New Year party approaches, things go wrong, and you need to deal with a new rival who used to be a hero. It becomes a battle of ethics and morals.
Magic no longer needed
Gameplay elements
The main gameplay aspect of Life After Magic is reading through dialogue. There are some choices to make along the way, which include which reply to provide to specific questions. It won’t have a massive effect on the plot until you approach the end when you need to deal with the villain.
Visuals and sound
The graphics in Life After Magic consist of three parts. The first is the hazy, pixellated background with a cartoon style. Secondly, you have the characters that appear when they speak, which have much better designs. Finally, there are a few animations and effects now and again. While it may not be a superb representation at times, it does relate to the story.
Ready to save the day
Life After Magic shows what happens when magical heroes no longer need to battle with a life to live. The girls dropped out of school to fight them, and now they need to find jobs to support their lifestyles.
It’s an interesting story with some sense of reality in it, showing the other side of heroes. The graphics could be better, but it’s enough to keep you intrigued.
