DefCon - Not the Best Real Time Strategy Game
DefCon is a competitive real time strategy game developed by independent British computer game developer Introversion Software, the team behind the cult hit Defense Force: Online. You play as one of the invasion force commanders, and your mission is to protect your home base from the "ods", or aliens who have landed on the planet. The premise behind the game is very simple, you see an immense amount of enemies coming your way, so you must build your wall, defend your outposts, and attack the enemy units one by one. You can buy new weapons, research new technologies, or get them by looting or by killing enemy soldiers. The combat is quite graphic, with the destruction and leveling done in a very realistic manner. The graphics are quite good too, but not the best.
DefCon is the most fun you can have with a game. It has very good action and gives you a chance to see your character grow and develop as a leader. The only thing that may make the game boring is if you do not know any mod-calls or strategies for dealing with the different types of missions. The mod-calls and strategies guide are available at the official website, which explains it all very well. DefCon is the best video game that doesn't have much if any violence; it's just a real-time strategy video game, with all the excitement you could ever want out of a game.
There are two difficulty settings, and this is where the game varies most between the different versions of the game. The first level is more difficult than the second; you have a bigger map to maneuver around, and more detailed real-time footage. The second level is much easier, and the focus is more on giving you a good challenge. DefCon is not the best real-time strategy game, but it's definitely one of the most fun you can play.
