AM2R stands for Alien Message Retrieval, an Action-adventure PC game developed by Argentinian developer Milton Guasti. It's an unlicensed remake of the classic 1994 Game Boy game, Metroid II: Return of Samus, in the style of the later Game Boy series. The story follows a bounty hunter (voiced by Hector Camacho), who stumbles upon a mysterious room containing artifacts that were used by the Metroid species to flee from Earth when they were defeated by the Galactic Federation. As the archaeologist investigates, he learns that the artifacts have sent out an all-powerful transmission which has taken up residence in the caves on Mars.
Based on the original concept from the Game Boy Advance game, AM2R is a full motion video game, using the pen-based stylus to do much of the clicking and moving. As you investigate the caves, battle enemies and progress through the levels, you'll encounter several recurring characters likeroid bosses, spider guardians, and other interesting alien creatures along the way. The player character can use the stylus to interact with the various objects as well as using the keyboard arrow keys to move the camera or use the mouse to point, scroll, or zoom. On top of that, AM2R also includes a few of the more classic Game Boy action-adventures, including a boss fight against a big space pirate in the second chapter, as well as an option to change the player's gender.
Based on the novel "Metroid: Other M", this game is different from the others in that the gameplay takes place in a non-traditional open environment that follows a single objective throughout the game. The hero, bounty hunter Paul Serene (voiced by Hector Camacho), must trek through the Metroid caves on his own to find the mysterious 'Metroid eggs' that are required to complete the game. While following the various paths and missions, he'll encounter both friendly and enemy creatures, puzzles and other obstacles to overcome. Although, the larger focus of the game is based around the exploration and collecting of the different'Metroid eggs', it is still an exciting and engrossing game to play, thanks to its strong story and new gameplay elements.
