The Building 71 Incident is a free retro adventure horror game set in the late 90s at a university in south Brazil. The game is a first-person walking simulator that resembles dated VHS footage with nostalgic country music as its opening and closing themes. Similar games include The Devil and Security Booth.

In it, you play the role of an anonymous detective examining the leads and gathering clues to uncover the suspicious activities that have resulted in the disappearances of people at this university building. Are the men in black hooded gowns university professors celebrating Halloween, or are they practising a ritual of human sacrifice?

Game narrative

The game starts with you in the driving seat of a van in the university’s parking lot. You will then walk through the lecture rooms. Someone has cordoned off some corridors, so stick to the walkable paths, including passages to empty bathrooms and dorms.

There are many notes and writings on billboards and chalkboards, so you can gather plenty of clues to understand what's been going on. You’ll witness gory torture setups, messy furniture arrangements and newspaper snippets all pointing to some spooky cult practices.

Game functions

You can use the right mouse click to zoom in on your view and interact with objects using the keyboard button ‘E’ or the left mouse button. To use your flashlight, press the ‘F’ key. You’ll need to use your wit to discover the real reason behind the closing of this university building.

You can enjoy the game's narrative and atmosphere instead of cheap jump scares that are often a significant component of first-person point-of-view horror games. The entire gameplay lasts between 10 to 20 minutes.

Play as an indie detective

The game lets you walk around suspicious scenes and collect video evidence with your VHS recorder. The game runs on Windows operating system, and the entire installation package requires 188 MB of disk space.
