Free AI answer engine
Perplexity AI is a free AI answer engine from OpenAI that’s somewhat similar to GPT-3 in the sense that it can produce responses to any kind of written instruction. However, this AI is much more oriented towards giving answers than writing software or creating text. Users can simply ask questions, and the software will display the results.
It aims to replace your conventional search engine by offering advanced tools no current search engine can, such as extrapolating data and presenting conjectures based on the available information. It can also address follow-up questions about the information presented.
Well-informed answers
Perplexity AI not only offers accurate information, but it also displays the sources of its info. You can then check each source for more information, and it’ll even display related topics you can investigate further.
For example, when asked about the difference between rock and pop music, it replied that rock is heavily dependent on instruments and pop is more vocal-based. The whole paragraph was taken from five different sources, and you can expand the answer for further clarification.
More options than other AIs
Some of the top AIs perform very well, but there’s not much to do besides reading the answer they provide. With Perplexity AI, you have a range of options. Besides checking the sources, you can also vote for accuracy in the answer, and ask follow-up questions.
Another interesting aspect is the Bird SQL tab. Here, you can ask for information, and it’ll present it from Twitter itself. For instance, asking, “who does Elon Musk like most often” displays the Twitter account of that user. If you ask “how to make apple pie”, it’ll deliver apple pie-related tweets.
A good proof-of-concept
Perplexity AI is an intriguing tool, and it’s poised to be part of the future of the Internet. However, it’s not there yet. While its capabilities are impressive, there aren’t as many sources as other search engines have. There’s also no way to get different answers each time, something other AIs do.
If you’re looking for precise, thorough information on a topic, this software can provide clarity and guidance where most regular search engines offer a jumble of incoherent data. Remember, the answers depend on the sources consulted, so they can be biased.
