Free sandbox shooter for Windows

Manta's Warbox is a free third-person shooter for Windows. It's a sandbox game, which is evident from the large areas that you can explore.
Despite its basic visuals, the game is highly customisable. You can design your squads by deciding the types of soldiers you have in them. There's a variety of roles that you can assign to your squad members too. Manta’s Warbox even goes a step further by letting you customise the battlefields too. For more military-themed games, take a look at Attack on Pearl Harbour and IGI 2: Covert Strike.
Customisation
Manta's Warbox takes customisation beyond the usual character options. In this game, you can give each soldier a different role, such as squad leader, anti-tank gunner, medic and more. You can also choose what sound they make and how skilful and threatening they are.
Additionally, in this game, you can customise the various battlefields as well, which is quite uncommon for third-person shooters.
Gameplay
Manta's Warbox lets you take part in a type of warzone. You can also spectate matches. However, before you can start playing, you have some setup to do.
First, you must design your soldiers. Decide what they’ll wear, what colour their clothes will be, their physical features, what weapons they'll carry and what their roles are within your faction.
During a battle, you can take control of soldiers by walking up to them. Naturally, this gives you more strategic control over how your squad will move as a unit. There are several battlefields to choose from, so how you play depends on which one you're in. However, in general, you'll be exploring your surroundings until you find and engage with your enemy.
Controls
You can control your movement and your visual perspective with various keyboard combinations. Additionally, you use the mouse to look around and fire your weapon.
Fight to victory
Due to the number of customisations that are possible in Manta's Warbox, it takes strategy to get set up before you can start playing. However, once you've done so, the gameplay is very engaging, so much so that the basic graphics don't detract from the game.
If you're looking for a game that has a little more to it than a straightforward shooter, Manta's Warbox is worth the free download.
