Goodboy Galaxy is a free exploration Windows demo for a game that’s available on GameBoy Advance and Switch. The primary objective is to find a character called Azure, who’ll form part of an upcoming indie title, Orange Island. It combines 2D platform elements with visual novel gameplay aspects. Similar games include Memochi and Lianthus.
The controls are easy to use, and there are button assignments in the options section. You’ll need to overcome several obstacles to reach your goal, either by jumping, running, or shooting. You’ll also collect friend cards to access in the main menu.
A journey to find someone
Platform games can be enjoyable to play when done correctly. Goodboy Galaxy DEMO takes you through several levels where you’ll be challenged to overcome various obstacles. There’ll be platforms to cross, spike to jump over, enemies to shoot, and so much more. While the first stages may appear easy, it becomes harder over time.
You’ll also meet some friends along the way, which means you can collect friend cards. There are also other objects to collect, and you’ll receive a score at the end of a level to show you how many you missed. The game also has some hidden items to find.
Easy to control
There are only a few buttons to use when you play Goodboy Galaxy DEMO. The main keys are for moving and jumping, but you can also look around too. When it comes to your weapon, you have the standard and charged blast options. Finally, the main menu has your collectables and settings.
Graphics and sound
As in true 2D platform fashion, the graphics are cartoonish with exquisite detail. There are plenty of colours and effects, which makes Goodboy Galaxy DEMO stand out from other platformers. You’ll find action music in the background that will accompany you towards finding the final objective.
Action platform entertainment
Goodboy Galaxy DEMO is one of the latest platform games to grace Windows devices that’s entertaining to play. You’ll spend some time become frustrated at some of the obstacles, but you’ll mostly have fun while trying to work out how to get past specific enemies or items.
It’s also an exciting introduction to a different game, which helps build hype towards it. When you finally complete the demo, it leaves you with a sense of satisfaction.
