Eerie Mountain is a free horror adventure game for Windows by indie developer Korvinrular. You play as a forest ranger who investigates the troubling and sudden disappearance of a local family that was last seen heading out to the wooded mountain.
Eerie Mountain is similar in many gameplay aspects and overall theme to other games within the horror genre like Slide in the Woods and The Forest. If you enjoy woodland horror stories and crime investigations this is definitely a game for you.
Frightening forest
Eerie Mountain rests comfortably between two incredibly popular indie genres; the walking simulator and the horror adventure. The titular Eerie Mountain is the primary location and the scenery is perfectly suited to this type of game.
The storyline
A family has disappeared. They were out exploring a nearby mountain range when it happened, and, as the mountain falls under your jurisdiction, you have been tasked with solving the mystery.
Throughout your journey, you’ll need to explore various environments and search for clues. You carry with you a flashlight, and nothing else. As your investigation leads you deeper into the murky wilderness of the Eerie Mountain, it will become clear that the mountain hides a dark and sinister secret. You’ll come face to face with the occult, and every choice you make affects the outcome of your investigation.
Gameplay
Eerie Mountain is a short game, as is usually the case with indie horror titles. The plus here is that it is, therefore, also a small game; you won't run into any performance issues while playing it. Depending on how you play and the choices you make within the game, you’re looking at a runtime of just under 30 minutes.
Beware the Eerie Mountain
Eerie Mountain is an incredibly intriguing game to play. The developer has put an extraordinary amount of thought into world-building and character creation, and the game has a well-written and, oftentimes creepy storyline.
If you enjoy games that make you need to check under your bed before you head to dreamland, you’ll enjoy this short but impactful indie horror experience.
