DALL-E 2 is a free text-to-image generator by Open AI. This service lets you input a prompt and let an AI model produce high-quality images based on your text. It’s the next iteration of DALL-E and works similarly to Lisa AI Art, Magic Avatar, and StockIMG.AI.
The interface is simple; you only need to register with your email to get started. Then, you can either input text to generate images or upload an image of yours for further enhancement. However, even though the premise is straightforward, there’s much more hidden underneath.
Generate almost anything
DALL-E 2 is incredible not only for generating images but also for taking different concepts and combining them. It looks as if the limits are your imagination only, and it’ll display several images depicting your concept so you can choose the most suitable one.
But that’s not all. For example, you can upload an image and ask it to expand it. It’ll do so in the same style and matching colours. Conversely, you can ask it to add items or concepts inside of your images.
Several improvements
When it comes to comparing it to its predecessor, DALL-E 2 is noticeably better. One of the main reasons is that, unlike the previous version, it can generate more realistic images with 4x more resolution. This is very important for anyone in need of large-sized images.
Another improved issue is safety. There are now filters that prevent you from asking it to generate violent or hateful images, as well as the inability to create “deep fake” pictures of personalities and regular people.
A staple of generative AI
Love it or hate it, AI-generated media is here to stay, and DALL-E 2 is no exception. In fact, it’s one of the spearheads of the whole AI ecosystem, and it’s easy to see why. The quality of the images has improved substantially over its previous iteration, and its ability to create is seemingly limitless.
If there’s an issue to mention, it’s that you need to understand how to give it the proper cues to generate what you have in mind. This can take some time to get used to, and you might get underwhelming results until you do.
