Paid media editing app
Prequel: Aesthetic Editor is a premium media editing app for Android. You can give your social media updates a truly aesthetic feel with this powerful editing tool by Prequel Inc. This app features many fully customisable filters and effects to give you complete control of how you present your photos to the world.
Some great alternatives to Prequel densely populate the Google Play store. For a free alternative that is similar in quality, try Sweet Selfie. Alternatively, give PicsArt Photo Editor a try.
Intuitive interface
Many editing apps have complex drawers, ribbons and buttons. Prequel, on the other hand, is laid out logically and in a simple fashion. All of the features you need are in the ribbon at the bottom of the screen. You can easily switch from video mode to photo mode, scroll between filters and activate other editing features like frames.
Once you click on a filter, you'll be presented with a slider interface from which you can increase the intensity of different features.
Battery drain
Prequel is an incredibly powerful image and video editing tool and gives you the power to bring a more professional feel to your aesthetic edits. Unfortunately, Prequel drains your battery. In our test on Android 10, Prequel drained the battery power at a rate of 1% every minute.
This means that you have around 100 minutes of editing time during intense image and editing. This will, of course, increase if your device is connected to a charger, but using such a battery-intensive app while charging will likely heat your phone up considerably.
Premium app
One downside to Prequel is that you won't be able to harness the app's full editing power without a full subscription. Payments for Prequel Gold occur either every week, month or year. The total cost for a year with each option is shown so that you can make an informed decision about the most cost-effective choice for you.
Powerful editing software
Prequel is an incredibly powerful and versatile photo and video editing tool. Playing around with all the filters, sliders and effects; you'll quickly realise that the possibilities for unique cinematography and truly aesthetic social media posts are near-endless. The sheer number of features if you pay for premium access is also unrivalled. You can rest assured that your photos and videos will stand out.
The app receives regular updates, primarily centred around performance enhancements. But new features do drop every now and then, so Prequel doesn't feel static.
