Free Open World RPG
PokeWilds is a free, open-world RPG from the developer SheerSt for Mac. This game is a Pokémon fan game. It’s currently in Alpha state, so the developer’s still improving it and adding new content.
You get Gen 2 Pokémon, as well as more recent characters that have been ‘retrofied’ to fit in. Exploring, building, and capturing creatures, it’ll soon start feeling like a combination of Pokémon , Minecraft and Animal Crossing. If you want to play more old-school RPGs for your Mac, you can try Holo Dungeon or Job Hunter 202X.
PokeWilds offers an open world where players can roam freely to discover new biomes with gorgeous sprites. Each biome offers unique creatures, and each one is populated by unique creatures. For example, in a snow biome, your character will slide on the ice, making moving around more challenging. You’ll also encounter NPCs and bosses to fight using your monsters during your journey.
A rich open world
Unique abilities for each creature
You can fly, surf, or cut trees, depending on what monsters you capture. As for the combat system, if you’ve ever played Pokémon, it’s the same here with turn-based encounters where you can only perform one action. Each monster has an element associated with it. Naturally, a monster associated with water will easily beat one associated with fire. Your creatures can gain levels, evolve and learn new abilities as you make them fight.
Crafting mechanics
What sets this game apart from a traditional Pokémon experience is that you can craft. When you collect the right monsters, it’s possible to cut down trees or break rocks, which gives you resources. These resources can then be used to craft objects at the nearest campfire, ranging from the balls you use to capture monsters to potions and even entire buildings.
An exciting throwback adventure
Even though PokeWilds is still in Alpha, there’s already a lot to do in the game. It features rich environments that will be unique to each player, classic RPG gameplay, and it introduces crafting to make the experience more engaging.
Whether you’re a fan of retro games, or are an original fan of Pokémon, this game’s a whole lot of fun. You get to play with the characters you're already familiar with, and can get them to do new things. This is a complete game, as opposed to a mod, so you won’t even need an emulator to get started.
