Infinite Stars: The Visual Novel is a fascinating free sci-fi game. It’s interactive in that you can choose how your adventure unfolds. Inspired by classics like Dune and Star Trek, and newer stories like The Expanse, Infinite Stars provides hours of entertainment. You can even build up your avatar and his/her relationship with the other characters. From one point of view, you’re an observer guiding other characters. From another, you take control of your own character’s evolution.
Background to the game
Humanity has overcome the conflicts between people in different countries on earth. The planet finally has a unified population, no longer divided by race, nationality or religion.
But humans aren’t alone. After the Discovery War that lasted many years, humanity was permitted to join the Interstellar Concordat of people from many other planets. But is the peace real and will it last?
What’s the game about?
The game is full of mystery, intrigue and interesting characters. You, as a player, can choose which character you want to be: a happy-go-lucky and optimistic flirt, a shy loner with a great talent for diplomacy, an ambassador who won’t lie and likes control, or maybe a loyal team player known for sarcastic comments on everything.
What’s your strategy?
The action takes place on a spaceship, the UIC Tabitha, and deals with what it really means to be human. You influence your avatar’s history, personality and relationships by your many decisions and interpersonal interactions. As for the other crew members, will you seduce them, befriend them, be professional with them or just annoy them. It’s up to you.
Who developed the game?
A solo developer from South Africa created Infinite Stars. He says that he has personal experience of how diversity and inclusion can benefit humanity. He searched the globe to put his multicultural team together. The character artist is from Mexico, the background artist from the US and an Iranian wrote the music.
What’s coming up next?
Episode 3 of Infinite Stars is in production. The developers say players will be able to load scripts into the game to get involved in different stories written by the developers, fans or players.
They’re also adding content reflecting real life to allow players to keep on shaping and refining their characters.
