Check and Track Connection Speed

FCCAPPS developed the FFC Speed Test, and it is available for free on Android 5.0 and higher. The app measures the speed of your internet connection over both cellular and Wi-fi. It assists the FCC in collecting and making public the performance metrics of broadband services in America.

FCC Speed Test runs functional tests to measure download and upload speed, latency, jitter, and packet loss. The privacy policy confirms that the app collects no information that can identify you. It also watches the performance of your connection over time. It’s similar to the Network Speed app.

FCC Speed Test schedules periodic background tests. It checks download and upload speed, latency, jitter, and package loss. If you are on a limited data plan, you can restrict the amount of data it uses and track usage yourself by checking it in the app. It also lets you view your test results on a map.

How does it work?

The user interface makes it easy to compare current and previous data to see changes in performance or even based on a wi-fi connection. You can export passive information like Cell ID, signal strength, and GPS location. It enables you to perform extra analysis over time and from different areas.

US Broadband Data Collection Initiative

The aim of the Speed Test app is to allow the FCC to collect data about the broadband speeds of networks in the US. This overview will help them build a comprehensive dataset to show where mobile broadband is available in the US. It will make it possible to compare and verify information from various US internet providers.

Purpose of Scheduled Tests

The scheduled tests provide a more realistic view of network performance. Random tests over various periods are an excellent approach to collect data. However, you can disable this option if it interferes with your device’s performance. To do this, select ‘Test Scheduler’  and toggle the ‘Allow periodic background tests’ to the off position.

Provide Better Broadband to All

The FCC Speed Test app checks and tracks your internet speed through scheduled scans. If you use the app, you help the FCC collect accurate information about what broadband options are available in the US. They can use this information to challenge inaccurate claims made by internet carriers. In this way, they can ensure mobile broadband is an option for all American citizens.
